King Charles and Queen Elizabeth\u2019s visit to the U.S is ongoing. After arriving in Washington, D.C. on Monday, the royals spent time with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House.<\/p>\n
The relationship between the two countries has been troubled for some months, not least because Trump has stated that the U.K. has not fulfilled their duties as an ally to help it in Iran.<\/p>\n
Charles and Camilla are therefore on a somewhat diplomatic mission, trying to mend relations between the two countries. On Tuesday night, the monarch delivered an address to Congress, in which he stated that the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom has been, is, and will remain important.<\/p>\n
Standing here today, it is hard not to feel the weight of history on my shoulder \u2013 because the modern relationship between our two Nations and our own peoples spans not merely 250 years, but over four centuries. It is extraordinary to think that I am the nineteenth in our line of Sovereigns to study, with daily attention, the affairs of America,\u201d King Charles said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, I come here today with the highest respect for the United States Congress; this citadel of democracy created to represent the voice of all American people to advance sacred rights and freedoms.\u201d<\/p>\n
King Charles addressed Congress
\nCharles continued, \u201cSpeaking in this renowned chamber of debate and deliberation, I cannot help but think of my late mother, Queen Elizabeth, who, in 1991, was also afforded this signal honour and similarly spoke under the watchful eye of the Statue of Freedom above us. Today, I am here on this great occasion in the life of our Nations to express the highest regard and friendship of the British people to the people of the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n
King Charles and his Royal Family members are expected to remain strictly neutral in public politics. Meanwhile, they are not shy of raising issues in the world, which King Charles did just last week.<\/p>\n
However, at that point, one royal expert suggested that King Charles might have taken a swipe at Donald Trump over the Iran war. In a televised speech to honor the late Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s 96th birthday, Charles explained how his mother had shaped the world around her and touched many lives.<\/p>\n
Still, with everything that is going on in the world, she would have been concerned.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, as we mark what would have been my beloved mother\u2019s 100th birthday, my family and I pause to reflect on the life and loss of a sovereign who meant so much to us all, and to celebrate anew the many blessings of her memory,\u201d King Charles said.<\/p>\n
Millions will remember her for moments of national significance; many others for a fleeting personal encounter, a smile, a kind word that lifted spirits, or for that marvelous twinkle of the eye when sharing a marmalade sandwich with Paddington Bear in the final months of her life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Donald Trump claims King Charles \u201cagrees\u201d with him over \u2018Iran\u2019s nuclear weapons\u2019
\nCharles had not mentioned Iran specifically earlier on during the trip, nor in his speech to Congress. He only said the \u201cconflict in the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, Donald Trump claimed Charles supported him over the Iran crisis, something he previously also stated.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re doing a little Middle East work right now\u2026 and we\u2019re doing very well,\u201d Trump said over a toast at the lavish State Dinner.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have militarily defeated that particular opponent, and we\u2019re never going to let that opponent ever, Charles agrees with me even more than I do. We\u2019re never going to let that opponent have a nuclear weapon. They know that, and they\u2019ve known it right now, very powerfully,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
