Her mother, Sheila Ray, later shared that their final conversation was a simple exchange of love โ€” a moment that would tragically become their last. When Katelyn failed to arrive by 7:30 a.m., concern quickly turned into panic. Repeated attempts to reach her were met with silence. Her sister, Courtney Pettit, even turned to social media, posting on Facebook in hopes of finding any information about Katelynโ€™s whereabouts.

Shortly after, the family received a devastating call from the highway patrol confirming the fatal accident. Authorities said the impact caused Katelynโ€™s car to collide forcefully with the rear of the school bus. No students were reported injured. Family members described Katelyn as outgoing, loving, and dedicated to improving her future.

She was attending GED classes at the WIN Job Center and had proudly earned her driverโ€™s license just two months earlier. As the investigation continues, Panola County mourns the loss of a young life โ€” a painful reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike on the road.
