According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, Ransone died on Friday, December 19, 2025, in Los Angeles, California. His death has been confirmed as an apparent suicide.
Medical examiner records list the manner of death as suicide by hanging, and local authorities reported that the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene, completed an investigation with no signs of foul play, and confirmed his body was found at his residence.
Ransone’s filmography spanned more than two decades, with over 70 acting credits across television and film. While The Wire brought him initial recognition in 2003, he also delivered strong performances in HBO series such as Generation Kill, Treme, and Bosch. In cinema, Ransone gained further acclaim for roles in horror films including Sinister (2012) and its sequel, It: Chapter Two (2019), Tangerine (2015), and The Black Phone (2021) as well as the recently released Black Phone 2.
Born on June 2, 1979 in Baltimore, Maryland, Ransone began his acting career in the early 2000s, and over time became a respected character actor known for his versatility and presence on both television and the big screen.
