The ICE agent who fatally shot Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis has been identified as Jonathan E. Ross, 43, a member of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcementโs Special Response Team. The shooting occurred on January 7, 2026, during a federal immigration operation in south Minneapolis.

Federal authorities state that Ross fired his weapon in self-defense, claiming Goodโs vehicle moved toward him, creating an immediate threat. Senior federal officials have publicly defended the agent, saying his actions were justified under the circumstances.
Rossโs family has spoken out in his defense. His father described him as a โcommitted Christianโ and a โtremendous father and husband.โ The family emphasized his strong moral values and insisted he would never intentionally harm anyone.
Ross has served with ICE since 2015 and is an Iraq War veteran. He is married and has children. Relatives say he is an experienced officer accustomed to high-risk situations and that his response was professional rather than criminal.
