Man takes bus for joyride in Canada, turns down passenger with expired pass

Canadian authorities say a man briefly took over an Ontario transit bus for an unexpected joyride โ€” while around ten passengers were still sitting inside. According to police, he even refused entry to someone trying to board with an expired pass, acting as if he were the real driver. โ€œIt may sound funny, but it was a serious situation, and thankfully no one was hurt,โ€ Hamilton police spokesperson Trevor McKenna told local media.

The incident happened Tuesday night after the actual driver stepped off the bus for a break at a terminal. The suspect slipped into the driverโ€™s seat, pulled away, and continued the route as if nothing were unusual, even stopping to let passengers on and off. Some riders only realized something was wrong when he began taking incorrect turns, prompting them to direct him back on course.

Police, monitoring the bus via GPS, followed from a distance without using sirens to avoid startling him. After roughly 15 minutes, officers safely intervened and arrested the man without incident. The suspect, who has no fixed address, now faces multiple charges including theft over $5,000, obstruction, and driving while prohibited. He is expected to appear in court soon.
