Born in Scotland and raised between Scotland and Ireland, McDonald was deeply connected to his roots, which often influenced his raw and emotional style of music. In 1979, he founded The Bollock Brothers, a band that quickly became known for its controversial name, bold covers, and experimental sound. They mixed punk, electronic elements, and satire, gaining attention for their unique interpretations of songs and their unpredictable live performances.

Over the years, McDonald became a true cult icon. He was admired not just for his music, but for his attitude — unapologetic, rebellious, and fully committed to artistic freedom. Tragically, Jock McDonald passed away on 26 July 2025, at the age of 69, after a drowning accident while swimming in Bundoran, Ireland.
