The Early Years and Childhood

Chris Pratt was born on June 21, 1979, in Virginia, Minnesota. He was the youngest of three children born to Kathleen Louise, who worked at a supermarket, and Daniel Clifton Pratt, who worked in mining and remodeling houses. Growing up in a working-class family, Chris learned the value of hard work and resilience from a very young age.
When Chris was seven years old, his family moved to Lake Stevens, Washington. This is where he spent the remainder of his childhood and teenage years. Lake Stevens offered a beautiful natural environment, which helped shape his lifelong love for the outdoors, hunting, and fishing.See More…

During his time at Lake Stevens High School, Chris was highly active and popular. He was a talented athlete, participating successfully in football and track. He was also a passionate wrestler, placing fifth in a high school state tournament, an experience that taught him discipline and physical endurance.

The Journey to Hollywood
After graduating from high school in 1997, Chris attended a local community college but dropped out after just one semester. He ended up working various odd jobs, including working as a discount ticket salesman and even a daytime stripper. Eventually, he decided to move to Maui, Hawaii, seeking a change of pace.

In Maui, Chris lived a carefree, bohemian lifestyle, often sleeping in a van or a tent on the beach. He worked at a Bubba Gump Shrimp Company restaurant to get by. It was at this restaurant in the year 2000 that fortune smiled upon him; he was discovered by actress and director Rae Dawn Chong, who cast him in her short horror film, Cursed Part 3.

This unexpected opportunity prompted Chris to pack his bags and move to Los Angeles to pursue acting full-time. His first major television role came in 2002 when he landed the part of Bright Abbott on the popular drama series Everwood. This role introduced his charming, boyish personality to a wider television audience.

The Breakthrough on Television
Following the end of Everwood, Chris joined the cast of the hit teen drama The O.C. for its fourth season. However, his true television breakthrough came in 2009 when he was cast as Andy Dwyer in the NBC comedy series Parks and Recreation. Originally intended to be a temporary character, Andy was so lovable that Chris was promoted to a series regular.

To portray the goofy, out-of-shape Andy Dwyer, Chris underwent various physical transformations, often gaining weight for comedic effect. His improvisational skills and natural charisma turned Andy into a fan favorite, earning Chris critical praise and establishing him as a top-tier comedic actor during the show’s seven-season run.
Becoming a Global Movie Star

While still working on television, Chris began transitioning to film with supporting roles in acclaimed movies like Moneyball, Zero Dark Thirty, and Her. To play a Navy SEAL in Zero Dark Thirty, he underwent a dramatic physical transformation, shedding his “goofy guy” weight and getting into peak physical shape.

This physical transformation paid off immensely in 2014 when Chris landed the role of Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie was a massive global box office success, catapulting Chris from a beloved TV actor into an international, A-list action star.

Chris solidified his superstar status in 2015 by starring as Owen Grady, a dinosaur researcher, in Jurassic World. The film became one of the highest-grossing movies in cinematic history. He reprised this role in multiple sequels, proving that he could carry massive blockbuster franchises on his shoulders.

Philanthropy and Personal Life
Beyond his work on the silver screen, Chris is deeply dedicated to philanthropic endeavors. He frequently visits children’s hospitals in character as Star-Lord to bring joy to young patients. He also actively supports organizations that help military veterans, food banks, and youth sports programs in his hometown.

In his personal life, Chris is a devoted father. He has a son, Jack, from his previous marriage to actress Anna Faris. In 2019, he married author Katherine Schwarzenegger, with whom he has expanded his family. Today, Chris continues to balance his demanding Hollywood career with his love for family life and the great outdoors.
